Leading food company Alliance Group’s Pure South Handpicked 55 Day Aged Beef has won three gold medals in the prestigious World Steak Challenge.

The farmer co-operative’s premium beef product won the gold medals for rib eye and fillet at the competition in Dublin, which benchmarks the quality of beef against global competitors.

Shane Kingston, General Manager Sales at Alliance Group, said the gold medals win re-affirmed the status of Handpicked 55 Day Aged Beef as among the world’s best.

“Handpicked 55 Day Aged Beef is in demand across the globe and we expect this to continue. It is a remarkable product with unprecedented levels of tenderness and a milder beef flavour profile.

“We’re committed to building a differentiated premium portfolio to capture more value for our farmers and meet the expectations of increasingly discerning consumers who are prepared to pay a premium for beef raised as nature intended, free-range, grass fed and antibiotic-free.”

Internationally-accredited assessors carefully hand select the Handpicked range from prime cattle of any breed. Only a fraction of the very finest beef ever makes the grade.

The selection is based on quantifiable meat quality characteristics such as marbling, fat cover, fat colour and pH.  Selected cuts are aged in a vacuum bag for 55 days.

Handpicked 55 Day Aged Beef is available in premium restaurants in New Zealand and at www.puresouthshop.com
