Freshwater Proposals

Alliance Group shares the concerns of farmers about the potential implications of the Government’s proposals for freshwater.

We are preparing to make own submission on the proposals and encourage all farmers to do the same, before the deadline of October 31.

Alliance Group considers the current proposals represent a blunt instrument to address a complex issue, and could significantly impact on our processing plants. There needs to be sufficient flexibility in the legislation so each situation can be considered on its merits, as well as appropriate transition periods.

We are concerned about the effective ban on changing land use. Applying blanket rules, that remove farmers’ flexibility to adapt their land use to meet new requirements, would compromise the future of New Zealand’s red meat sector.

Beef+Lamb New Zealand has developed a submission template for farmers wanting to have their say on the proposals. This summarises the key issues facing sheep and beef farmers and suggests text you can copy and paste, or rewrite, to use in your own submission.
